Q:
I am a girl and have facial hair on my lip. And I feel that it is very noticeable. It is also embarrassing. So I have a couple questions about it.
Why do girls have facial hair?
And what can I do about it from a medical perspective. Are there any vitamins or something I can take?
A:
There are several potential causes for female facial hair and the most common is heredity. If you have female relatives who have excessive facial hair, that is most likely why you do too. However, there are some hormonal causes for hirsutism which can be tested for and treated. There is no evidence that diet or vitamins will make a difference.

You can set up an appointment with one of our women's health care specialists to discuss further evaluation.
