Q:
So this year I have been experiencing extremely intense stomache pains, but have chosen to not visit a doctor because I felt that it probably wasn't anything, but now I am worried that it might not just be "nothing." Sometimes it is so bad that I can not walk or even get up to go to the bathroom, and this is not during my period either. The pain is in my lower stomache and sometimes in my lower back and near my female organs. Could this be serious? I haven't been to a doctor in a very long time and am very nervous to visit doctors for issues like these. I tend to wait it out and hope it goes away as I have a very high pain tolerance. Should I be seeing someone for this?
A:
The short answer is yes, you should be seen for any persisting of recurring pain, especially in the abdomen. If you would be more comfortable seeing a women's nurse practitioner, that is an option in our clinic and they are very sensitive to any nervousness you may have about an examination. You can call 650-3400 to request a same day appointment.
