Q:
I noticed that after every meal I usually throw up a little in my mouth, it wouldn't be something to be concerned about but this can go on for hours until almost all my meal is gone. Its not something I do consciously and I'm wondering if I have an eating disorder or if there is something wrong with me. I almost feel like I'm not eating anything because I throw it all up eventually. I tried looking on the internet but I didn't find any conditions like mine. I'm not bulimic because I'm not making myself throw up it just happens! It's also really embarrassing because sometimes when I'm with people and I eat, I throw up in my mouth and I have to act like I need to use the rest room but it gets worrisome when you have to go 10 times within the hour. Is there some wrong with me? Please help me!
A:
This suggests an esophageal problem like reflux or muscle spasm/regurgitation that needs further evaluation. If you have already tried over the counter reflux medication like omeprazole daily then you do need to see a doctor (if you are enrolled for summer quarter, we can see you in clinic. If not enrolled, then go to a walk in clinic) and you may need a referral to a gastroenterologist.
Avoid foods that can aggravate esophageal reflux such as caffeinated drinks, and alcohol.
