Q:
I have a very painful raw area on the side of my labia. It is very red and is extremely painful when touched by my clothes or water when I shower. What could this be from?? It just suddenly happened and I don't know where it came from. I am not sexually active, and I haven't done anything that would seem to cause this rawness. Should I be using ointment on it??
A:
It is possible to get a skin infection in the labia that is not sexually transmitted so any persistent redness or soreness should be evaluated to make sure you don't need antibiotics. You should be seen in clinic to have it evaluated.
