Q:
I am a 21 year old male with a question regarding testicular self exams. I have noticed that the back of my left testicle is sort of lumpy. There is not ONE hard lump like i've heard described as what to watch out for. But on the back, it does not feel very smooth and there a few soft lumps and bumps. Is this normal or something to get checked out?
A:
The epididymis is located behind and above the testes and it can feel lumpy but is distinctly separate from the testicle. If you think there is asymmetry in what you are feeling, then it is best to have it checked by a clinician to make sure it is normal.
