Q:
My boyfriend I both want to have sex. He is 18 and has no problem getting an erection up until right before we try to have intercourse it isn't hard anymore. We have tried numerous times over a the last few months. We gave it almost a month without trying and then tried again recently, but the same thing happened again. What should we do?
A:
Loss of erection before intercourse in an otherwise healthy man usually is indicative of a brain that is not ready. It is possible that alcohol or other drugs could be a factor, but most likely of all is that emotionally, he knows he is not ready for the commitment that intercourse implies--he is not accepting this is a casual act for him.
So "wanting to have sex" may not be the case after all. He may well not be ready to take your relationship to the next level so it is best to back off and not try to make intercourse the goal.
