Q:
I am on birth control and on Sunday I was supposed to start taking my week of non-hormonal pills, which I did. I decided I wanted to skip my period this month though after taking that so Monday I began the next month's hormonal pills. Is this okay to do? If i have sex is there more of a risk of getting pregnant than usual? And should I use extra protection when I have sex?
A:
If I understand correctly, you completed all of the first three weeks of pills, then started on the 4th week of pills, (or "non-hormonal" pills), but changed your mind, right? If this is correct, .. and you started at the beginning of your new pack of "hormonal pills" anytime within the 7 days that you would normally take the non-hormonal pills, then there is no extra risk of pregnancy.
Just continue on the new pack as usual.
The idea behind this is that if you took your "active pills" regularly for the first three weeks, no ovulation took place during that time, so you can't get pregnant during the 4th week. (if you go longer than 7 days after your last hormonal pills however, your risk for pregnancy increases).
