Q:
I regularly donate plasma at Biolife. About 2 weeks ago, I had a SPE test, and my blood protein levels were low (5.8%). They require at least 6%. However, I didn't find this out until after my next donation, where my levels were 6.5%. I just got the results of my next SPE back today, and my levels had dropped again even lower, to 5.8%. I'm a very active person and eat quite a bit of protein every day. Is this something that I should be concerned about? Do I need to come in and see a doc?
A:
This is not a particular source of concern if you are otherwise feeling well but if you are consistently running < 6.0 then we should see you to review your history, examine you and do a general blood metabolic screening. Continue to increase your protein intake in the mean time.
