Q:
I had sex the day I thought I was about to get my period and I know my boyfriend ejaculated in me at least a little. Then my period ended up not coming that day but three days later and we had sex a few times throughout those three days. I was just wondering if since I did get my period, it means for sure that I'm not pregnant or if there's still a chance that I might be because it happened so close to it. Thank you for your help!
A:
I'm assuming from this question you and your partner are having unprotected intercourse without using any contraception? That is a certain recipe for getting pregnant if you are seeking to get pregnant. If you are not trying to get pregnant, then I strongly recommend you set up a women's health consultation at the Student Health Center or Planned Parenthood to discuss birth control methods that may work best for you and your partner.
Although fertility is usually low in the two-three days before your period starts, it is not zero, as women may ovulate at varying times in their cycle and their follicle (egg) fertilizable for at least 24 hours. Having a period is not a guarantee you are not pregnant. Nearly a third of pregnant women have at least one period early in their pregnancy.
Call 650-3400 to set up a pregnancy test with our triage nurse and to schedule a birth control consultation discussion.
