Q:
I have a high-maintenance tummy. I get diarrhea almost everyday. It's not always incredibly awful, but it's still unpleasant. I get diarrhea when I'm nervous, excited, anxious or when I eat something I don't regularly eat. It's annoying because I can't eat someone else's cooking because it will probably make me sick. I was wondering if there is some sort of pill I can take to make my tummy stronger, and if it's available at drug stores.
A:
There are many possible explanations for your abdominal symptoms and you don't say if you've ever been evaluated for this with lab work, stool studies, evaluation for food intolerance or malabsorption, etc.
If it is simply irritable bowel, there are ways to help that with increasing non-digestible fiber, like psyllium powder (Metamucil) on a daily basis.
If you haven't talked with one of us about a diagnosis, it is probably best that you do.
