Q:
I have this small, skin-colored bump on my armpit that hurts a little when I touch it, and I'm almost positive it isn't from shaving/an in-grown hair. I've had it for a couple days, and it's starting to go away. I asked my dad about it and he mentioned something about adenoids, and how this may be a sign that my body is trying to fight off some harmful bacteria. Should I be seen by a doctor?
A:
I think your dad means lymph nodes or adenopathy which is your lymph system reacting to skin inflammation or infection, usually from shaving or antiperspirant in the armpit. If the bump is going away, then it is not something to be concerned about--your lymph system has done its job. If the bump is persisting or enlarging, then we should check it.
