Q:
My boyfriend and I have sex and neither of us have an STD so we haven't been using condoms. I am on birth control that I always take every day but sometimes it's not the same exact time- always before noon though. I know I still can get pregnant but what are the odds? Should I start taking it at the same exact time for it to be more effective?
A:
It does not have to be exactly at the same time for you to have adequate contraceptive effect. As long as you take your pill as you are, your effectiveness for preventing pregnancy is very high. Some women are so sensitive to the low dose pills that if they delay taking their pill by a few hours, they will start to spot (bleed) so that is why we recommend consistent dosing timing.
