Q:
I have had one previous miscarriage and I believe I just had another recently. Should I be examined by a doctor? If so, what kind of examination do I ask for? Thanks
A:
Depending on when you think you miscarried, it would be wise to confirm you have dropping HCG (pregnancy hormone) levels, and that your pelvic examination reveals no sign of tenderness from infection, nor signs of continued pregnancy. Sometimes an ultrasound is necessary to confirm you are no longer pregnant.
It is possible to have bleeding during pregnancy and still remain pregnant, especially in ectopic pregnancies (i.e. tubal pregnancies), sexually transmitted infections, and twin pregnancies. So if you think the likelihood you were pregnant is high, you should be examined.
