Q:
Yesterday in the health center I was told that I had Patellofemoral Syndrome. I popped my knee this morning while getting ready and it hurts pretty bad, what should I do?
A:
Usually the inflammation/irritation under the knee cap in Patellofemoral Syndrome can take weeks to resolve so it is not unusual to have it get exacerbated with activity. You can do antiinflammatory medications like naproxen or ibuprofen over the counter, icing of the knee and wear a pull on immobilizer to support the patella. The most important prevention is exercising and strengthening the quad muscle, so if you were not referred to the athletic trainer for instruction, we can do that.
