Q:
For about a year now I have been getting bumps on the back of my thighs. They are almost like cysts or zits, some pop and some don't. They are really ugly and I don't know why I started getting them. I drink a ton of water and eat healthy, and it can't be from shaving because I don't shave the back of my thighs often. Is this common? Is there a medication for it?
A:
It isn't clear if these are staph bacteria boils you are describing, but if so, they should be seen at the time you are having symptoms so they can be cultured to see if you have methicillin resistant staph aureus (MRSA) and treated appropriately with antibiotics. Some people carry staph bacteria in their noses so your nose also could be cultured.
The back of the thigh and buttocks are a common place to get staph infections as you are seated so much, there is irritation to the skin pores and hair follicles.
