Q:
Hello, my last doctor told me that it was ok to skip the placebo pills in my birth control. I have been doing this for about a year now. I was wondering however if skipping placebo pills increases my chances of getting pregnant while on the pill? Thank you.
A:
No, it doesn't increase your risk of getting pregnant, but it is not clear what the potential health effects are of no menstrual period for such an extended time. Most clinicians recommend having a period at least once a year, although this issue has become a controversial area of women's health care. Talk to your prescribing doctor or you are welcome to have a free consultation with one of our women's practitioners about what may be best for you.
