Q:
Hi Doc I will be coming to class fall quarter with a completely torn PCL injury on my left knee. I have seen an orthopedic surgeon about getting the reconstruction during Winter Break and I am currently doing Physical Therapy to reduce the swelling in my knee and strengthen my stability.
I want to know how the health clinic at the school will be able to help me out and how we can work up a schedule that would allow me to continue improving my knee pre-op and post-op. Thank you
A:
I'm sorry to hear about the injury -- that's unfortunate.
We have a certified athletic trainer on campus that is familiar with pre-op and post-op rehab protocols that could continue with your care.
I'd recommend an appointment to see me at the Student Health Center (650-3400) after fall quarter starts, and I can check the knee and then refer you to see the trainer if it seems appropriate.
The benefit to seeing her is that it's free for you, and it's on campus and easy to get to.
Otherwise, I could refer you to an off-campus physical therapist, but that would require payment either from you or an insurance company.
See you in the fall!
~The Doc
