Q:
I have had a pressure feeling in my jaw, right across from my ear lobe (where it moves) for a few days. I don't have a tooth ache at all, and only notice it when I open my mouth all the way. It does not hurt to eat, but I do feel pressure on that side of my mouth. I don't have health insurance, so I am hoping you can alleviate my worries!
A:
You don't need health insurance to be seen at the Student Health Center so feel free to make an appointment for your concerns.
It sounds like TMJ--temporomandibular joint strain which can happen from tooth grinding and clenching in your sleep. We can confirm that for you by seeing you, but typically this is best relieved by using a dentist-manufactured night guard for your mouth at night.
