Q:

I keep twisting my right ankle when I run. What can I do to stop that from happening?

A:

Usually this problem is due to a previously-injured ankle that has not been appropriately rehabilitated. Or, there may be a structural problem that makes recurrent sprains more likely.

Regardless, your best move at this time is to see a provider at the Student Health Center who understands sports medicine problems so that an accurate diagnosis can be made, and therapy instituted. The answer to the problem usually involves a structured rehabilitation program which can be taught to you by our rehabilitation athletic trainer. This approach is usually very successful. We really want to keep you physically active, but in safety and comfort.
