Q:

Hi Doc,

Recently I've been getting bloody noses out of nowhere and I'm afraid I might have some sort of illness. What scared me was when I was working out in the gym doing some running, after I stopped, I had a large nose bleed. I have never experienced one this big before. Do you know what caused it?

A:

No, I can't say what caused it but physical activity, dry air and getting warm will all cause vasodilation of the blood vessels in your nose and if you have a weak area, or irritated area, it is likely to bleed. Most nosebleeds are completely non-concerning and not a sign of a disease. If it recurs, is difficult to stop (takes longer than 10 minutes) or you have other signs of easy bleeding like bruising, then you should get checked out.
