Q:

Just recently I have all of a sudden gotten a lot of bloody noses, in fact I have had about seven in five days. The thing about these bloody noses is that one they last forever and two the blood just comes gushing out. I have tried to have a humidifier in my bedroom thinking that its dry air but that doesn't seem to be helping. My mother thinks it would be a great idea to go to a doc to see if my blood is thinning to much and that I may have a disease. I want to know what you think. The only reason I ask is because this isn't normal of me, I never get nose bleeds and for them to happen the way they do and the extent of them frightens me slightly. Hope you can give me some what of an answer. Thank you.

It is wise to come in for an exam, as there could be an irritated blood vessel in your nasal mucous membrane that is the cause (sometimes from dry air, sometimes from infection), and there are ointments that can help. If there are any other indications of easy bleeding, then we recommend a complete blood count.
