Q:

I have been having a lot of headaches which I think might be due to stress... for the past week they seem to come in the evenings and make it hard to do anything. I have been trying to drink a lot of water and get enough sleep... do you have any suggestions for reducing headaches of this sort?

A:

Headaches have many causes, and if this is a headache that is new and different for you, and you are not finding ways to relieve it, it is best to come in for assessment.

Stress relieving activities include massage, exercise, warm baths or showers, avoiding caffeine and nicotine, and relaxation exercises. Limited use of over the counter medications like Tylenol, Ibuprofen or Naproxen can be helpful at times if this is a muscle tension headache.
