Q:

I twisted my ankle last week in my aerobics class. It swelled up pretty huge, but then went down within about four days. It's feeling a lot better now, but it's still slightly swollen on the side and really starts to hurt during my ballet and aerobics classes. I can deal with the pain (it's not excruciating), but I'm just worried about permanently damaging my ankle. Can it still heal properly if I'm working out everyday and taking PE?

A:

You may be re-injuring the torn ligaments with your activity, so we'd recommend that you consider a wrap around brace that we have available in the health center that allows you to continue to move but protects the ankle from re-injury. The training room in Carver Gym is also available on referral from us (you must be seen here for the referral) for ankle sprain rehab therapy.
