Q:
When you
exercise specific muscle groups are you actually burning the fat in that
area or are you just burning general calories? For example: If I do
crunches, I know I am working my abdominal muscles but am I actually burning
the fat on my stomach?
A:
Generally, you
cannot "spot reduce" by exercising specific body regions. However, in
times of calorie deficit some areas of fat deposition tend to lose fat
more "visibly" than others do, so there may be the appearance of spot
reduction, for instance, about the waist.
