Q:

I'm currently on a weight loss plan involving dieting and exercising in a healthy manner (nothing extreme or dangerous and no pills or supplements). Next weekend, I will be attending a special dinner for my husband's birthday. Is it okay to splurge a bit at one dinner or can even one meal ruin my weight loss attempt? I'd like to be able to relax and enjoy the evening without counting calories at each course.

A:

Feel free to eat what you are comfortable eating without guilt on your husband's birthday. Overdoing it is never a good idea, even on special occasions, and remember, you are trying to retrain and reset your "I'm full" signal, so eat slowly and drink plenty of water. Good for you for maintaining your commitment to a healthier lifestyle but it should not be exclusive of the joy of enjoying a great meal.
