Q:
For the
past couple of months I seem to have much more gas than normal and my
stomach "gurgles". I notice it more in the late afternoon and evening. Is
there something that I can change in my diet or daily routine to make it go
away?
A:
Gas is caused by gas-producing bacteria in the gut, which get more active
with certain foods, or can be aggravated by air swallowing, such as from gum
chewing. If you don't notice that the gas sounds are related to certain
foods, such as dairy products (i.e. lactose intolerance) or foods such as
legumes, cabbage, onions, and other "gassy" foods, then you might consider
trying a gas relieving product such as simethicone to see if that helps.
