Q:

I have a sore throat and flesh colored bumps at the back of my throat. While looking through other questions and responses I found that another person seems to be in my situation and the they are probably a result of a virus. However, after what period of time should they go away? What if they don't? Could there be any other reasons for them to be there?

Thanks.

A:

Most viral sore throats go away after 3-4 days and are accompanied by other symptoms of muscle aches, low grade fever, and runny nose. If your throat is beefy red and swollen, or has white patches, or you have high fever, you should be examined.

Lymph tissue swelling in the back of the throat, as you are describing, can also appear in allergies, but is most common in a viral infection.
