Q:

I'm a 19 y/o female student. I'm currently trying to get back in shape through eating healthier and working out regularly at the rec center. I've been told that it's normal for weight to fluctuate a little on a day to day basis- what is a normal amount of fluctuation?

Thanks!

A:

Good for you in your desire and efforts to get fitter and healthier!

Yes, weight can fluctuate as much as 3-4 pounds in a 24 hour period, more right before your menses. It is best to weigh at the same time of day to most accurately assess how you are doing and remember that muscle weight is more than fat weight, so you may not see a drop in weight though you are getting more muscle tone and strength.
