Q:

I presume that you may be able to answer questions that apply to all sorts of health concerns, physical and psychological, etc. Feel free to not answer or be able to answer this.

It's about school policy. What is the school policy about dating an employee (i.e., professor) for a student. There is definitely an interest in one who is not in my major and who was met outside of the school setting. I'm not 18, actually nearing 30, so it's not like I am a child or naive to the influences of power structures. Other than that I think I may have a chance.

I'd like to know if you knew the legal ramifications of pursuing a relationship here. I just would hate to not even take the chance to ask or miss out on something special.

A:

Though it is not specifically banned in administrative policy, dating between faculty or staff with a current WWU student is discouraged due to the potential risk of influence of power over that student, even if not in a direct teaching relationship.

The best source of information is the Equal Opportunity Center on campus, which investigates allegations of sexual harassment.
