Q:
I had a cold about a week ago but I find I'm still having a
bit of nasal congestion (usually not so bad that I can't breathe out my
nostril, but enough to be annoying) and when I blow my nose sometimes a bit
of blood is present? Is this just the cold lingering on or something more
serious? Besides the nasal congestion I feel pretty good.
A:
It's not
unusual to have enough inflammation and irritation in the nasal mucus
membranes after a virus that you can have bloody mucus for awhile. As long
as it is not a true nose bleed and there is no soreness or tenderness
present, it should resolve on its own soon. If it persists for another week,
let us have a look.
