Q:

I feel like I am taking on too much and it has been causing a lot of stress in my life. I am taking 18 credits right now, and I work two jobs, totaling about 30-40 hours per week. I am also actively involved with 4 volunteer groups/jobs, and I am thinking about signing up for 1-2 more. Volunteering totals about 15 hours per week. I feel like I need to take every opportunity that is available to me, but I am realizing that I have absolutely no free time, and my work in all areas, my relationships, and my mental health are beginning to suffer because of the stress.

I spend any time I have between commitments just making lists and schedules and outlines and plans, trying to get myself organized and figure out how to fit everything in, but I feel really overwhelmed and scattered. I really hate the idea of cutting down my activities and volunteering, and I can't cut down my jobs very easily because I am supporting myself through school, but do you think that is the best option? Do you have any ideas for stress and time management, or really effective organization?

A:

In general, there are only so many hours in the day and only so much you can accomplish with limited sleep. You are over committed and it is starting to take its toll.

You need to back off on the volunteering commitments. You will have a life time of volunteer opportunities; there will never be a lack of chances to give of your time.
