Q:

I stopped my hormonal birth control and have not had any sexual activity for two months. (The last month I was on birth control and then this month). I'm not sure when I'll get my period because this is my first cycle off birth control but I'm expecting it to come any day now (it's day 24 since my last period). My question is, is it normal to not have a period your first cycle off birth control? Will I just "get back on track" after a few months or something?

A:

It is not unusual for regular periods to take 2-3 months to get re-established after being on hormonal birth control. Presuming you were using your hormonal method exactly as prescribed, your risk of being pregnant is very low. If you don't have a period after 4 months, then you should be evaluated.
