Q:

I have a question about STD risk. I performed unprotected oral sex on a man twice (no intercourse). I don't know anything about his past sexual history. This happened about a year and a half ago. I'm with someone else now and we don't use condoms since I'm on birth control, but I'm still slightly concerned. Should I get tested for STD's?

A:

The answer is yes, not so much because of the more remote history of fellatio, but due to unprotected intercourse now. We routinely recommend a pap smear for screening for HPV, as well as chlamydia and gonorrhea testing. You can consider HIV and Hepatitis screening as well. Routine herpes testing or testing of the throat after fellatio is not recommended unless you are having symptoms.
