I take Ritalin sometimes to focus on school. Whenever I take it though, I get a really bad headache. Is this something I should worry about?

 

A:

Yes, that is worrisome because as a stimulant, Ritalin is causing vasoconstriction of your blood vessels, which in turn raises your blood pressure. Increased blood pressure can cause headaches but it is particularly a worry that this may be a warning sign of a brain aneurysm (dilated blood vessel). You need to talk with your prescribing provider about this right away.
