Q:

I did Relay for Life this past weekend. All told I walked about 15 miles. I now have pain and stiffness in the muscles around my knees and find it very difficult and painful to straighten my legs. Besides staying hydrated, stretching, and ice, are there any other ways I can hasten my recovery? And should I come in to have it checked out if it doesn't go away soon?

A:

Using anti-inflammatories, such as ibuprofen (up to 600 mg. 4x a day) or naproxen (400 mg. twice daily) can be very helpful. Take the medication with food to protect your stomach lining.

If you are not improving after 24 hours of medication, we can certainly see you.
