Initial Consultation

You may either visit or call the Counseling Center to request counseling. You will be scheduled for an initial consultation to get some understanding of your concerns.  At the first appointment, counselors ask standard intake questions to help gain a more complete picture of your situation and concerns. You and the counselor will decide on the most appropriate plan for follow-up services given the nature of your concerns.

The counselor you see for the initial consultation might meet with you for short-term counseling or might refer you to another counselor in the Counseling Center who could better help you with your particular concerns. Students with urgent or crisis situations are given priority and are scheduled immediately.  In some cases students can be best served by therapists in the Bellingham community who can offer longer-term and more specialized counseling.  If that is the case, we can assist you in gaining that referral.

In many cases participating in some of the various classes, workshops, and groups the Counseling Center offers can be valuable to you in making the changes your desire.
