Prevention & Wellness Services offers classes in CPR/AED and first aid to currently enrolled Western students on most Sundays of each quarter. Classes are taught by American Red Cross certified peer health educators. The certification students receive in our classes are good for two years and can help to fulfill academic and employment requirements.

Schedule: Classes are held on campus on most Sundays while WWU is in session, except holiday weekends and the weekend before finals week. See the class schedule below.

Registration: You must register in person at the Wellness Outreach Center (VU 432) in order to fill out the student account billing authorization. The WOC is open weekdays, 10 am – 4 pm. You are welcome to call ahead to see if there is still space in a class (650-4321), but you cannot register over the phone. The cutoff to register for each Sunday class is the previous Thursday at noon. However, classes often fill up weeks in advance, so we encourage you to register early.

Certification: CPR certification is valid for one year and First Aid certification is valid for 3 years. You will receive your certification cards on the day of class, provided that you pass the skill tests and the written exam.

It is important that you be on time to class! The American Red Cross will not allow us to certify anyone who is late or who leaves early. If you are late or you leave early, you will be charged for a missed class and you will need to pay again to make up the class.

Fees: Adult CPR/AED certification: $30. Infant/Child CPR certification: $30. Combined Adult CPR/AED & First Aid certification: $46. Fees are billed directly to your Western account.
