Sexual assault is any unwanted sexual contact without consent. This may include stranger rape, acquaintance/date rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault, unwanted exposure to pornographic images, and unwanted sexual touching. All such acts are forms of sexual harassment prohibited by Title IX and are crimes.
Rape: Forcing someone to have sex against their will – even in a relationship. “Force” means anything someone does to make the other person feel like they cannot leave, including holding them down, blocking the door, or threatening them.
Coercion: Talking someone into sexual activities that they don’t want to participate in, using tactics to make the person feel bad or guilty if they don’t participate.
