IUD placement @ Student Health Center
How to obtain an IUD from the Student Health Center:
- Check out the manufacturer websites for the two types of IUDs currently available, "Paragard" and "Mirena" in order to choose which type of IUD might be best for you.
- Make an appointment with a women's health care nurse practitioner to discuss your choice. To do this, call 650-3400 and press 1 to speak with a receptionist. At the time of that visit, your medical history will be reviewed; the benefits and risks of each of the IUDs will be discussed as they pertain to you; and you will be asked to sign the Consent to Purchase IUD form. It may be necessary to make another appointment in order to do a pap smear, if this has not been done recently. (If you have had a normal pap done elsewhere recently, please bring a copy of those results with you to your appointment). If the pap test is normal, it should be fine to proceed towards insertion of an IUD.
- An appointment for the IUD placement can now be arranged.
COST: The Consent to Purchase IUD form contains all necessary information about the costs involved.
