Vaccinations for high-risk WWU students (those with chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma or those on immune suppressing medications) will be available starting the week of October 15, 2007, and to all other students starting the week of October 22. Vaccinations will be available on a walk-in basis Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM and Thursday 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM; students will need to check in with a receptionist to get on the flu shot schedule. Students are encouraged to come in early in the day to reduce the wait time.
Vaccinations for WWU faculty, staff, and family members will be available on Wednesday, October 24 and Tuesday, November 6 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Student Health Center Meeting Room, on the second floor of the Campus Services building on Bill McDonald Parkway near the corner of 21st Street. A third day, later in November, may be added if demand is still high; please check our homepage for updates.
Faculty, staff, and family members must first purchase a flu shot ticket for $18 at the Cashier’s Office in Old Main 245, available beginning Wednesday, October 17. The ticket must be presented to the nurse prior to receiving the shot. Personal checks will not be accepted in lieu of a flu shot ticket. The nurse will initial the ticket after the shot is administered. The initialed ticked may be submitted to the patient’s insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Students don’t need to purchase a ticket in advance, as the $18 charge will be billed to their student account. Students wishing to seek possible reimbursement from their insurance company may request an initialed receipt from a receptionist.
Parking is available, by permit, in the lot in front of the Campus Services building. A valid parking permit, available from the Visitor Center in the lobby of Campus Services, must be on display.
Dr. Emily Gibson, director of the Student Health Center, encourages those with chronic illnesses to get their flu shots as soon as possible and notes that they might need a booster flu shot in January to protect them through February.
