Emily Gibson, M.D. Medical Director

Emily is the Medical Director of the Health Center. She is also a board certified family physician with special expertise in mental health, eating disorders, sexual assault evaluations, and chemical dependency issues.

Dr. Gibson earned her A.B. from Stanford University in 1976 and then went to the University of Washington for her M.D. in 1980. She had residency in the Group Health Cooperative family practice from 1980-83. She was also recertified by the board for family practice in 2007.

Warren Howe, M.D.

Warren is our Joc-Doc. His expertise is in exercise-related and musculoskeletal medicine and, in addition to most family practice issues, he likes to deal with injuries and other problems related to physical activity and sports participation. As the university’s team physician, he's in charge of keeping WWU's sports teams healthy. He is board certified in the areas of family and sports medicine.

Dr. Howe got his A.B. at the University of Rochester and later went on to Washington University in St. Louis to graduate with his M.D. in 1965. He completed his internship at the Philadelphia General Hospital in 1965 and his residency at the University of Rochester from 1969-71.

Margaret Mamolen, M.D.

Maggie is a staff physician at the Health Center. She is board certified in family medicine with special interests in international health and travel medicine. Maggie is the SHC travel clinic physician.

Maggie graduated with a degree in Biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and got her M.D. degree from the University of California at San Francisco. She completed her residency in family practice in Salinas, California in 1986. Maggie was an EIS officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 1987 to 1989 before working as a medical epidemiologist for the Vermont state department of health. She and her family moved to Washington state in 1994.

Lorna Gober, M.D.

Lorna is a board certified family physician who works part time at the Health Center.

Lorna graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Robert Watson, M.D.

Bob is a psychiatrist at the Health Center. His area's of expertise include adolescent and adult transitional issues, psycopharmacology, Bipolar disorder, ADHD.

Doc Watson graduated from the University of Hawaii with a masters in Human Physiology and then went to the University of Washington where he got his M.D. and completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry.

Susan Hakeman, M.D.

Susan is a psychiatrist at the Health Center.

Kerry Mitchell, A.R.N.P.

Kerry is a family nurse practitioner and the nursing supervisor. She is a general care provider.

Kerry received her Nursing Diploma in 1976 from BCIT in Vancouver, BC. She went on to obtain her BSN in 1989 and MSN in 1992 from the University of Washington.

Susan is a family nurse practitioner. Her areas of expertise include family practice and women's health care.

Susan graduated from the University of Washington, and later attended the University of Tennessee for her Masters of Science in Nursing.

Jill Kelly, R.D., C.D.

Jill Kelly is Western’s university dietitian dedicated to bringing nutritional health and healing to campus.  She received a bachelor’s of science degree in community medical nutrition and dietetics from Viterbo University in LaCrosse, WI.  She is registered nationally with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and certified in WA State.

Jill has completed extensive continuing education in topics such as, Diabetes Wellness, Evaluation and Treatment of Eating Disorders, Advanced Sports Nutrition, Weight Management and Metabolic Disorders, Cardiovascular Health, Food Allergies and Malabsorption, and Women’s Health and Hormones.

Lori deKubber MEd., A.T.,C.

Lori is a Certified Athletic Trainer specializing in injury rehabilitation. She has been working with students at WWU since 1990. Lori has a B.S. in Community Health, a Masters in Sport Psychology, and NATA Certification in Athletic Training.

Catharine Vader, R.N.

Catharine is a Registered Nurse who coordinates the Self-Care clinic. She is certified in College Health Quitting Smoking. Her other areas of expertise include sexual health and cold/self care centers.

Catharine received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at the Intercollegiate School of Nursing at WSU in Spokane, WA.

Suzanne is a Registered Nurse who works at the Health Center as a triage nurse.

Teri Bodensteiner, R.N.

Teri is a Registered Nurse who's areas of expertise include Travel Clinic consultation, immunizations, TB testing, and allergy injections.

Teri graduated with her Diploma of Registered Nursing in 1979 from Wishard Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis, IN.

Marcia works in the front office as the Patient Services Representative Lead. She is in charge of the bookkeeping and also doubles as a receptionist.

Jessica Heidemann

Jessica is an Information Technology Specialist at the Health Center. She is in charge of keeping the computers up and maintains the Electronic Medical Records system.

Jessica graduated from Western Washington University in 2002 with a degree in Management Information Systems and a certificate in Web Management.

Gail Knops, M.D.

Gail is a board certified family physician who works part time at the health center.

Gail obtained her BS in Zoology from Washington State University and her M.D. from Washington University in St. Louis. Later she completed her Residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
