Welcome to the Center for Law, Diversity & Justice
"All of us in the academy and in the culture as a whole
are called to renew our minds if we are to transform educational institutions --and society-- so that the way
we live, teach, and work can reflect our joy in cultural diversity,
our passion for justice, and our love of freedom."
- bell hooks
"How can one not speak about war, poverty, and inequality when people who suffer from these afflictions
don't have a voice to speak?"
- Isabel Allende
The Center for Law, Diversity and Justice (CLDJ)was established in 2006 at Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies at Western Washington University to support the work of students, faculty and community members around law, diversity and justice issues. Regardless of whether students choose to study at Fairhaven or pursue a major elsewhere at Western Washington University, the Center serves as an essential resource for pulling together the various threads of justice work taking place at WWU, Fairhaven and throughout the diverse communities in Whatcom and Skagit Counties.
The Interim Coordinator for CLDJ is Midori Takagi. She is a professor at Fairhaven College, teaching courses related to various social justice issues and American Cultural Studies.

ABOUT THE FILM
This is a story about the civil rights movement like no other. The longest peaceful demonstration in the history of America was started in 1958 by 12 children ages 6 to 17 years old and their youth leader. These children grow into young adults as their demonstration lasted five years and seven months. Be a part of this moving documentary, a fantastic story and retrospect told at a critical time.
