Chinese Language Program

The Chinese language program provides for students of Western Washington University the opportunity to learn communicative skills in Chinese, a language spoken by 1.3 billion people, approximately one-fourth of the world population.  The program offers courses of Chinese language at the first, second and third-year levels.  In addition, several courses related to Chinese linguistics and culture are offered.

Students who seek a minor in Chinese language must meet the following requirements:

  • 25 credits in Chinese at the 200 level and above;
  • GPA of 2.50 or above;
  • Limit of 15 credits at 200 level;
  • Chinese 301, 302, 303 and/or Chinese 390

Students may also choose Chinese as a student-desiged major. Students who have taken one or two years of Chinese are encouraged to study Chinese abroad. Please visit our web site  Study Chinese Abroad for more information. If you have any questions regarding the Chinese program, you may visit our other pages: Faculty, Courses or send an email to the coordinator of the program Dr. Kathleen Tomlonovic .
