Understanding Self and Others Group

This confidential support group provides an opportunity for students who want to learn more about themselves and their relationships. There are two sections of this group.

Women’s Group

Looking for a safe place to connect with other women? Come to the Women’s Group to share your thoughts on issues such as body image, assertiveness, intimacy, and friendship. Share about your experience of being a woman! Learn to identify and build upon your strengths and help others to do the same. Find your authentic self!

Mindfulness Group

This group is for people who want to find balance, explore mood and anxiety concerns, and improve emotional health through meditation, breath and body movement, and thoughtful discussion.

Men's Group

The purpose of this offering is to provide a place for men to meet and discuss issues relevant to their lives, their identities, and their senses of self. Participating will increase your awareness as you learn from and relate to other men on campus. The direction of the group will be determined somewhat by the members and their interests, but general themes will include such topics as the experience of being a man, masculinity, societal expectations of men, and the impact of socialization on men's communication.

Grief Group

Many students who have survived a loss feel isolated, while the world around them seems to go on as before. This support group is a place to share the pain of our losses, the memories of our loved ones, and the wisdom we may have gained from our grief. Whether your loss happened recently or years ago, we hope you can join us.

Breaking Free: A process group for women who experience disordered eating

Are you trying to find your way out of a limiting, weight-obsessed existence? Do you seek wellness and wholeness? Do you want to move on to healing? Are you trying to break free of dieting, weight and food obsession? This group offers a supportive space for women to share their experiences, thoughts, concerns, hopes, and emotions regarding food and body image.

Fall 2015 Workshops

Coping Skills Workshop

A three-part educational workshop where students learn practical tools for coping withdistress. Three sections (Calming Body and Mind, Increasing Mindfulness, and Managing Emotional Distress) are offered in rotation through the quarter. Students can just show up, no sign-up in advance is necessary. Students are encouraged to attend all three sessions in any order. Sessions are held Mondays at 4 pm in the Health Center and Thursdays at 10 am in the Counseling Center.

Taming Your Test Anxiety Workshop

Do you panic during exams? Are you freezing on your math tests? Is test anxiety dragging down your grades? Attend one of these workshops and learn to maximize performance and minimize stress.

Creative Expression

College is stressful and it can sometimes feel like you have nowhere to truly be who you are - to truly express yourself. It is important that you have a creative outlet in your life. Integrating art, writing, talk and music, this group will give you a supportive space to express yourself in ways that feel safe and comfortable to you.

LGBTQA Support Group

This therapy group is designed for queer and trans* students (including, but not limited to LGBTTQQAI identities) and students who are questioning or exploring their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. This is a process-oriented group designed to facilitate personal growth. Thus, participants have a place to explore all things related to sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Participants are also invited to work towards personal growth goals that may directly or indirectly relate to their personal sexual orientation and/or gender journey.
