During the 1990s the field of sport psychology has increasingly undertaken a more applied or performance orientation. Contemporary professional preparation programs in sport psychology are becoming more focused on bridging the gap between research and practice.
Therefore, applied sport psychology professionals have assisted coaches, athletes, exercisers, exercise leaders, athletic trainers, and parents in providing a quality educational experience for participants who seek performance excellence in a variety of sport and exercise settings.
In addition, many of the sport psychology principles that have been employed to enhance athletic performance are currently being adopted in the workplace, performing arts, and in the daily lives of individuals who seek personal excellence.
