CSD Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Program Admissions and Application Information

Academic standards, residence requirements, transfer credits consideration, and program time limits are in accordance with WWU regulations and policies. The following is an overview of admission and application information regarding the Speech-Language Pathology Master's program in CSD. Admission Requirements:

• A baccalaureate degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders/Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology from an accredited U.S. college or university or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The degree must have been completed within the past five years. Please note: A degree in Speech Sciences or Linguistics is not considered an "equivalent degree".
• Applicants who have an undergraduate degree in another discipline may click on the post-bac programs link at the left to learn how to meet this admission requirement by completing pre-requisite undergraduate coursework.
• An undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.00 (B or better) in the last 90 quarter or 60 semester hours of study.
• Specific Test Requirements: Graduate Record Exam, (GRE)

  Applicants are required to submit scores earned within the last five years from the General Test portion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), which is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The General Test of the GRE measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and writing skills. The test is available year round in a computer-based format. Advance registration is required and students should plan ahead in order for scores to be reported in a timely manner. We recommend that applicants take the test no later than November 1st to ensure scores are reported by the application deadline.
  
  There is no minimum score required, however we recommend that you aim for the 50th percentile or better. If you take the GRE more than once, you may report the scores of your “best” exam, but you may not pick-and-choose scores across exams. Applicants are asked to self-report scores on their application and must also submit an official GRE score report to Western Washington University (score report code 4947). Those who have taken the test in the past or on multiple occasions should inquire early to be sure scores are reported properly and in a timely manner.
  
  Effective August 1, 2011, ETS has changed the GRE test. The department and University will continue to accept GRE scores from the "old" format (taken prior to 8/1/11) as long as the scores are earned within the last 5 years. Anyone taking the GRE on or after August 1, 2011 will submit GRE scores from the new test format.

• Note: You must have completed a neuroanatomy course AND a course in aural rehabilitation prior to beginning your graduate program. If you have not met this prerequisite and are accepted as a CSD graduate student, you must complete CSD 450 during the six-week summer session preceding your entry into graduate school.

Application Materials:

• Completed forms from the Graduate School.
• One copy of official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
• Three letters of reference from professors or others who are able to make an appropriate assessment of your academic and professional competence and your potential for graduate level study. It is highly recommended that at least two of the letters be from professors who can attest to your academic skills.
• A one-page statement describing why you are interested in graduate level study in speech-language pathology and what you bring to the discipline in terms of relevant experiences, academic skills, clinical potential, and career goals.
• A one-page resume, providing information about educational background, awards, relevant employment and volunteer experiences.
• Please do not send unsolicited materials such as term papers, CDs, or course syllabi.

Deadlines:

• Application materials are due in the Graduate School office no later than February 1 of the year preceding the fall you plan to start graduate studies.
• All application materials, including official transcripts, must be postmarked by the application deadline. The Graduate School will notify applicants of missing information only if the applicaion is received well before the deadline.
