Change The Way You Teach

Service-Learning courses provide faculty with innovative teaching and learning strategies that bring greater relevancy to classroom instruction. Service-learning fulfills Western Washington University's mission by helping to develop "the potential of learners and the well-being of communities." Teaching a service-learning course also benefits you through:

  • Inspiring and invigorating teaching methods
  • Increasing student contact through greater emphasis on student-centered teaching
  • Connecting community needs with curriculum and becoming more aware of current societal issues as they relate to academic areas of interest
  • Identifying areas for collaborative community research and publication
  • Advancing scholarship and service contributions for tenure and promotion considerations
