Dean Wright Welcome to the College of Sciences and Technology! We are pleased to welcome you to the web pages of the College of Sciences and Technology at Western Washington University. The College is a major part of the liberal arts core and the center of science, mathematics and technology instruction at Western. The College is an exciting place – we hope in the pages that follow some of that excitement can be conveyed to you. Our College offers a wide variety of excellent educational opportunities. The Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, Geology, Mathematics and Physics/Astronomy departments, the Science, Mathematics and Technology Education program, the Internet Studies Center, and the newly-formed Advanced Materials Science and Engineering center (AMSEC) and Biomedical Research Activities in Neuroscience (BRAIN) program offer courses and research opportunities for our students taught by the highest quality faculty, in modern up-to-date facilities that allow us to compete with the strongest undergraduate and master’s degree granting universities in the country. Our faculty participate directly in the classroom and laboratory instruction of our students, in programs that emphasize independent student scholarship and the development of creative and innovative thinking. This close faculty-student interaction, a hallmark of the “Western Experience,” results in an intense and fulfilling educational experience. Recognizing this, we invite motivated students in the State, the Northwest and the Nation to join us as we learn, discover, and explore the frontiers of our areas. We hope you will explore our website to learn more about what we are doing and the opportunities that exist in the College. Graduates from our departments and programs are prepared not only for a wide variety of professional opportunities in each of the disciplinary areas and in many new interdisciplinary areas, but are also ideally prepared for those pre-professional programs that require scientific and technical backgrounds.
