Welcome from the Associate Chair
We are very pleased to celebrate our second year of the merger of Dance with Theatre to create the Department of Theatre and Dance, a collaboration that has significantly strengthened both areas. Our growth continues to be amazing – we currently have 40 Dance majors and 47 Dance minors – and the year 2011-2012 holds many incredible opportunities in both performance and curriculum for our students. Featured performances for the season include Fall Into Dance, New Music/New Dance, our Faculty Dance Concert, the wildly popular quarterly Cabaret, our BFA Capstone Concert, and a special performance being planned for Summer 2012. We are also excited to offer a new experimental elective, Jazz, designed to challenge and inspire our students during their exploration of dance.
As is true of dancers the world over, passion and dedication are the norm for both our faculty and our students. Additional energy and enthusiasm contributions come from frequent master teachers and guest artists. We pride ourselves on offering dance opportunities for all students, from beginners to pre-professional, and the multiple perspectives that dance education illuminates.
Welcome!

Mission of the Dance Department
The faculty and staff of the theatre and dance department are committed to a liberal arts approach to performing arts education while maintaining a balance of both academic and practical approaches to the arts of theatre and dance. We believe strongly in the value of academic rigor, which in turn supports and maintains productions and projects of the highest standards. We promote a global, diverse and collaborative view of performing arts education, and strive to train artistic leaders in their chosen disciplines who will further contribute to the craft.
