General Browser and Java 1.6.45 Information

This information is provided for those that must use Java .1.6.45 for compatibility reasons with a specific application.

Browsers

PREFERRED BROWSERS

  • Internet Explorer (IE) 9/10: Supports all known central applications.

  • Firefox: Supports all known central applications, except it does not support all functionality in all applications. See Issues With Specific Applications section below.

  • Chrome: Supports all known central applications, except it does not support all functionality in all applications. See Issues With Specific Applications section below.

  • Safari: Support for Windows has been discontinued. Windows Safari support in Apple iCloud has been discontinued

ISSUES WITH SPECIFIC APPLICATIONS

  • Sharepoint: Most functionality is available in most browsers. Some functions work better in IE.

  • Banner: See Java section below.

  • Campus Receivables Collector (CRC): Most end-user functionality supported in all browsers, however Administrative Reports do not work in Firefox or Chrome.

  • Nolijweb: See Java section below.

JAVA

Some applications such as Banner and Nolijweb require the use of a Java. Java is installed and maintained separate from the browsers. The recommended 1.6 version of Java is Java 1.6.45.
Copy and paste the link below into Windows Explorer (not IE Internet Explorer).

First Time Java Secrity Warnings in Browser

Browsers give security warnings the first time a Java website (Banner, Nolijweb) is clicked on. After answering the security questions properly and enabling the Java plugin, the security warnings should never reappear.

Click on the main Info titles below to view content about how to deal with specific browser security warnings. Click on Info title name again to hide content.

IE: First time Java Security Warnings in browser

The first time when Banner is started, a Security Warning popup window (below) will appear. Likewise, for those Nolijweb users who do not use Banner, a similar Security Warning popup window will appear. Perform the following procedures.


If you receive the above message perform the following:
- go to the Control Panel
- open the Java console

IE6x
1. click on Advanced tab
2. under Settings click on Security
3. click on Mixed Code to expand options
4. click on Disable Verification option button
5. click Apply button
6. click OK button

Banner


- this message will appear upon starting Banner for the first time


- click on the red alert plugin icon located left of the browser address bar
- a popup message will display
- click on the Allow and Remember button to continue

- close browser
- restart browser
- restart Nolijweb.
